Q: What grades do you offer?
A: The Alexander School offers grades 8 through 12?
Q: Are you an accredited school?
A: The Alexander School is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and is recognized by the Texas Education Agency as an accredited nonpublic secondary school.
Q: What kinds of students attend The Alexander School?
A: Alexander students range in age from 13 to 18. They come from all over the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex including Richardson, Plano, Allen, McKinney, Frisco, Highland Park, Dallas, and Arlington. Students and their families represent a wide range of socioeconomic, political and spiritual backgrounds. On average 64% of our students previously attended public school, 40% attended other private schools, and 6% were home schooled. Diversity is a very important part of The Alexander School.
Q: I heard a myth that Alexander students don’t have to attend class on Fridays, is that true?
A: It’s not a myth…it’s TRUE! Only students who are behind on curriculum, incomplete or are failing must attend Friday make-up classes. However, there are four Fridays in the year when all students are required to attend classes, and some advanced science classes will occasionally conduct major labs on Fridays.
Q: Do you require a uniform?
A: The Alexander School does not require a uniform. The dress code is fair and expects students to dress appropriately and responsibly for school. If students look in the mirror and question whether or not their clothes are school appropriate then they should change.
Q: How many classes do students attend per day?
A: Classes run from 8:15am to 4:30pm Monday through Thursday. Students can take up to 8 classes per semester, depending on their schedule requirements. If they are behind on curriculum or homework, failing a class, or have science labs, they attend on Fridays beginning at 9:00am.
Q: Do students have homework?
A: Students have a required study lab time with each core class and many elective classes. Students should be able to complete their assigned work at school during their study lab time as well as meet with their instructor for additional help or questions while on campus.
Q: Are teachers available for help and/or questions outside of class time?
A: Alexander teachers are available Monday through Thursday from 3:40pm to 4:30pm for students with questions or needing extra help.
Q: How do your students score on standardized testing?
A: Alexander students consistently score higher than the national averages on the California Achievement Tests, the PSAT, SAT, and ACT.
Q: How many students are in a class?
A: Class sizes average 4 to 6 students per class.
Q: How long has the school been around?
A: The Alexander School opened for classes in 1975.
Q: What percentage of your seniors goes on to college?
A: Approximately 95% of Alexander seniors are accepted into colleges in Texas and across the United States.
Q: Do you offer a college preparatory program?
A: The goal of The Alexander School is to prepare students for college. Many services and resources are available including an SAT Prep class, assistance in researching colleges and universities as well as help with filling out applications. For qualified students, the school also offers instruction in nine advanced placement subjects.
Q: How many credits are required to meet graduation requirements?
A: 26 credits are required.
